This is quite literally the best and most fun class I have had the pleasure of taking at OSU. Experiencing the environment of a security operations center firsthand is an incredibly effective way of teaching a wide range of skills that will help our future careers regardless of where we end up in the industry.

Experience

Students will be providing cybersecurity services to regional underserved entities — such as small local government agencies, K-12 schools, smaller higher education institutions, and nonprofit organizations who struggle to meet their cybersecurity needs — under the guidance of experienced cybersecurity professionals.

As a student at ORTSOC, you will gain real-world experience monitoring network traffic for suspicious activity along with investigating and responding to cybersecurity incidents. This experience increases your available jobs and starting salary.

Undergraduate Program
ORTSOC students spend approximately 10-12 hours per week engaged in a series of clinical rotations over the course of a year, providing varied services to a consortium of under-served organizations. Rotations include:

The ORTSOC Practicum is limited to students in the Cybersecurity Option – Security Operations Practicum Track.

 

Graduate Program (Coming Soon)
The Clinical Rotation Year prepares graduate students to be security leaders. Taken in the final year, this series of 17, 3-week operational blocks begins the second week following Spring term.1
  • Weekly lecture/discussion series highlighting new trends, professional practice, and ethics.

CyberCorps® Scholarship for Service
The CyberCorps® Scholarship for Service is for students who are passionate about having a cybersecurity career in the government. SFS is a funding package for up to three years for undergraduate or graduate students that covers tuition, provides a stipend, and professional development.
